Having spoken to several schools it appears one of the main difficulties for them is getting children to our site especially on one to one basis so we are about to launch our 'Mobile Farm' in 2017/18 academic year which will take the animals to the schools. This will enable the children to carry out activities aligned to the National Curriculum without leaving the school premises saving time and money. Whole year groups can access the 'farm' and then we may be able to identify any individual who may benefit fom one to one session in the future.
This format has been successfully tried in other parts of the country with great success. It is primarily Age range 5 - 11 but we hope it will be expanded in the future. Starting in a small way with a pony and/or donkey, sheep and chickens, the youngsters will be able to handle ,ask questions and identify what they eat, how to care for them, the differences between them and humans. All fitting in with KS1 Science activities, making it fun and interesting.
We will liase with the teachers to ensure they get as much benefit as possible from the experience, helping to keep the children interested and engaged with activities at a fraction of the cost of an out of school visit.
If any school is interested in having a visit from the Mobile Farm please get in touch via e mail [email protected] or telephone 07584 192846 01485 211076 to discuss and view example lesson plan.
